The polyclonal antibody to serotonin is suitable for immunohistochemistry. It labels serotonin as well in normal cells and tissues as in carcinoids. Serotonin is a biogenic amine (5-Hydroxy-Tryptamine) which is produced in many eucaryontic cells. In Vertebrates it plays an important role as a neurotransmitter substance of the central and the peripheral nervous system. In the stomach and intestine it is produced by s.c. enterochromaffine cells in epithelia cell layers. In the blood it is mainly found in thrombocytes, basophilic granulocytes and in the granula of mast cells. Serotonin (5-Hydroxy-tryptamine).
